Coordinated School Health Program

Preparing Schools for H1N1 Flu - Superintendent of Public Instruction
H1N1 (Swine flu) information for and about schools - Department of Health

The Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP) at the Washington State Department of Health is working toward healthy schools and healthy, successful students by coordinating effective policies and programs, and encouraging the collaboration of schools, communities and families. This program is in partnership with the Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. It is supported by funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A coordinated school health program brings together school administrators, teachers, other staff, students, families, and community members to assess health needs, set priorities and plan, implement, and evaluate school health program activities. There are eight components of a coordinated school health program:

• Health education • Physical education
• Health services • Mental health and social services
• Nutrition services • Healthy and safe school environments
• Health promotion for school staff • Family and community involvement
