Health Disparities

The Office of Health Promotion contributes to The Department of Health’s efforts to address health disparities and ensure a culturally competent workforce in a number of ways:
  • Serving as co-chair of the Community and Family Health (CFH) Division's Multicultural Workgroup (MCWG) and representing CFH on the  Department of Health’s Multicultural Steering Committee. The MCWG was formed as an internal workgroup aimed at integrating and operationalizing cultural competency at program and systems levels. Activities include:
  • Building cultural competency by assessing and addressing needs.
  • Offering workshops in cultural competency.
  • Advising CFH leadership on policy and procedures regarding hiring and recruitment.
  • Advocating for a supported diverse workforce.
  • Conducting and facilitating discussion groups and guest speaker series.
  • Participating in the CFH Health Disparities Workgroup which is exploring how the Community and Family Health Division can most effectively integrate its efforts to address health disparities and improve services to those experiencing health disparities.

  • Coordinating and assisting in the Legislative bill analysis process regarding bills that have a cultural competency and health disparities impact.
