The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has many programs that focus all or in part on some aspects of women's health.  These programs are funded separately and include:

  • Family Planning and Reproductive Health (FPRH);
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases;
  • HIV/AIDS;
  • Breast and Cervical Health;
  • Diabetes Prevention and Control Program;
  • Heart Health;
  • Maternal and Child Health (MCH);
  • Adult Immunization;
  • Injury and Violence Prevention Program;
  • Public Health Nutrition;
  • Tobacco Prevention and Control Program;
  • Women, Infants and Children's Supplemental Nutrition Program; and the
  • Office of Health Promotion.

Our women's health effort has focused on bringing these programs together to improve:

  • collaboration,
  • to broaden the focus of women's health at the state level and
  • to provide a forum for Department of Health input and response to current and emerging women's health issues.

This is accomplished primarily by the Women's Health Resource Network (WHRN), a cross program workgroup that meets regularly.  WHRN's purpose is to provide a forum for communication and coordination related to women's health issues in the areas of assessment, policy and health promotion/disease prevention.
