  • New "Comments" Page
The WIC Website now has a Comments page! It can be found at www.doh.wa.gov/cfh/WIC/contact.htm, and it has also been added to the site directory on the left side of each page. Topic suggestions are provided, and clicking on one will bring up an email with the selected topic in the subject line. December 2007

  • New Interim Food Rule
On December 6, 2007, an interim final rule revising the WIC food packages was published in the Federal Register. The changes to the WIC food packages are designed to improve the nutrition and health of the nation’s low-income pregnant women, new mothers, infants and young children. The new food packages include fruits and vegetables and whole grains.

The Washington State WIC Nutrition Program is pleased to announce in conjunction with the Food and Nutrition Service, the release of a series of resources for WIC staff on the New WIC Food Packages. The materials include tools for public relations, participant education, staff education and training, and breastfeeding promotion and support. Many of the materials are already up on WIC Works and more will be added soon.

We hope you find these tools to be helpful. You can access them by visiting http://www.nal.usda.gov/wicworks/Learning_Center/Food_Packages.html.

To learn more about the food packages and read the Interim Rule visit the Web site for the Food and Nutrition Service at http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/regspublished/foodpackages-interimrule.htm.
