For Health Care Providers

As with most chronic diseases, diagnosis, treatment and management are critical to controlling asthma. Untreated or under-treated asthma symptoms interfere greatly with quality of life.

The role of the health care provider is to help people with asthma control their disease, and prevent it from interfering with daily life. This requires comprehensive, active management of asthma patients, including:

  • Evidence-based asthma assessment and monitoring
  • Education for a partnership in care
  • Control of environmental factors and comorbid conditions that affect asthma
  • Appropriate use of asthma medications
