General Cancer

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

The National Cancer Institute coordinates the National Cancer Program, which conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists and humanitarians who work together to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other diseases.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI), established the Cancer Information Service (CIS) in 1975 to educate people about cancer prevention, risk factors, early detection, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and research. The CIS is an essential part of NCI’s cancer prevention and control efforts.

The registry is dedicated to accurately monitoring the incidence of cancer in the state of Washington for the purposes of understanding, controlling, and reducing the occurrence of cancer in this state. This program is designed to standardize data collection and provide information for cancer prevention and control programs at the local, state and national levels.

Cancer Lifeline provides emotional support, resources, educational classes and exercise programs designed to support people in all stages of the cancer process for patients, survivors, their families, friends, co-workers and caregivers. Services are available at no cost throughout the Puget Sound area and in 16 Western Washington counties.

Gilda's Club provides free of charge, support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and social events in a nonresidential, homelike setting for people living with cancer and their families and friends.

Breast and Cervical Cancer

CDC's National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) provides access to breast and cervical cancer screening services to underserved women all 50 states, the District of Columbia, five U.S. territories, and 12 tribes.

The Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade raises funds and awareness for advancing access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Action carries the voices of people affected by breast cancer to inspire and compel the changes necessary to end the breast cancer epidemic.

The mission of the Breast Cancer Alliance is to fund innovative breast cancer research and to promote breast health through education and outreach. Breast cancer survivors, their friends and health-care professionals are fulfilling this mission.

The Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) exists to provide support services that address the educational, social, psychological, and physical needs of those challenged by breast cancer, as well as to educate the public throughout our community about the importance of screening and early detection of breast cancer. The BCRC is not affiliated with any health system or health care provider and makes no referrals to medical professionals.

The National Cervical Cancer Coalition (NCCC) is a growing coalition of people battling cervical cancer and HPV related issues.

The Jacobs Institute of Women's Health (JIWH) is a nonprofit organization working to improve health care for women through research, dialogue, and information dissemination.

The National Women's Health Information Center (NWHIC) is the most reliable and current information resource on women’s health today. Offers FREE women’s health information on more than 800 topics through their call center and Web site.

The Mautner Project aims to improve the health of lesbians, bisexual, and transgender women who partner with women, and their families, through advocacy, education, research, and direct service.

American Indian Health Resources

The South Puget Intertribal Planning Agency (SPIPA) is a 501(c)(3), tribally chartered intergovernmental agency. SPIPA provides direct services, planning, and technical assistance to each tribe and eligible Native Americans residing within the SPIPA service area.
