Basic Food Program Clients

  • 12 percent Washington residents are served by the Basic Food Program.

  • 40 percent are younger than 18

  • 42 percent are 18-49

  • 8 percent are 50-59

  • 8 percent are over 60

  • Only 57 percent of eligible people receive food stamp benefits and assistance.

We're changing our name - and look !

As of October 2008, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is the new name for the federal Food Stamp Program.  SNAP-Ed (formerly BFNEP), is the nutrition education program for people eligible to receive food stamp benefits.
We will be transitioning to the SNAP-Ed name over the course of 2009.
