Comprehensive Cancer Control Program
Comprehensive Cancer Control is
an integrated and coordinated approach to reducing cancer incidence,
morbidity, and mortality through prevention, early detection, treatment,
rehabilitation, and palliation. This approach encourages healthy
lifestyles, promote recommended cancer screening guidelines and tests,
increase access to quality cancer care, and improve the quality of life
for cancer survivors through enhanced survivorship.
The Washington
State Department of Health is working with a statewide partnership to
implement Washington’s Comprehensive Cancer Control State Plan.

reportable condition in Washington and mandated the Department of Health
to establish a statewide cancer registry program to accurately monitor
the incidence of cancer in the state of Washington for the purposes of
understanding, controlling, and reducing the occurrence of cancer in
this state." This program is designed to standardize data collection and
provide information for cancer prevention and control programs at the
local, state and national levels.

Chronic Disease Prevention Unit
Chronic
diseases – such as asthma, cancer, diabetes and heart disease – are now
the leading cause of illness disability and death. The leading causes of
chronic diseases are smoking and obesity. These programs work with
partners statewide to prevent and control chronic diseases.

The Nutrition Physical Activity
and Obesity Prevention Program works with state leaders, communities,

learn, work, and play. This CDC-funded program produces and promotes
Washington's Nutrition and Physical Activity State Plan.

Asthma Program
The Asthma Program works to
control asthma symptoms by helping people with the disease learn how to
manage their asthma, reducing exposure to asthma triggers in the
environment, and improving healthcare for people with asthma. The
program builds local and state infrastructure to support these
objectives.

Tobacco Prevention and
Control Program
The
Tobacco Prevention and Control Program uses comprehensive, proven, and
cost-effective strategies to reduce tobacco use rates and prevent kids
from starting. Program goals are to:

quitting among tobacco users.
- Prevent youth
from beginning to use tobacco.
- Eliminate
exposure to secondhand smoke.
- Identify and
eliminate tobacco-related disparities.
The program
supports statewide activities such as the Washington Tobacco Quit Line
and media campaigns, and services directly provided by county health
departments, community organizations, schools, and tribes. The Tobacco

Women, Infants, and
Children (WIC) Nutrition Program
The mission of the Washington
State WIC Nutrition Program is to improve the lifelong health and
nutrition of women, infants, and young children in Washington State.
This program is designed to help pregnant women, new mothers, and young
children eat well, learn about nutrition, and stay healthy.
Women, infants, and children who qualify (according to income and
nutrition risk guidelines) are provided nutrition education and
counseling, breastfeeding education and support, nutritious foods, and
assistance with access to health care. WIC promotes healthy habits
early, when they make the most powerful difference in the lifelong
health of a child. Almost 50% of all infants born in Washington are
served by WIC.
