About The Program

The U.S. Centers for Disease Prevention and Control first funded the state’s Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program in 2003. The program studied the burden of heart disease and stroke in Washington, and then created a plan to identify ways to improve outcomes. In 2005, CDC awarded the program with funding to implement the plan.
Our work includes awareness-building, prevention, emergency response, acute care, and rehabilitation. We work with healthcare, worksites, and communities.

What Guides Us

Washington State Public Health Action Plan for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention and Management is our five-year strategic plan.

Program Priorities:

  • control high blood pressure
  •  control high blood cholesterol
  •  know signs and symptoms, know to call 9-1-1
  •  improve emergency response
  •  improve quality of care
  •  eliminate disparities

Partners—there are many strategic partners who assist us in carrying out this important work.
