Changes in Varicella (Chickenpox) Requirement

Be sure to follow the new recommended varicella requirements for your patients as of July 1, 2008:

• Kindergarten: For children entering kindergarten in fall 2008, two doses of varicella vaccine or health care provider verification/documentation of immunity is required.
• Child Care/Preschool: For children 16 months and older in child care and preschool programs, one dose of varicella vaccine or health care provider verification/documentation of immunity is required.
• Parental documentation of history of disease will no longer be acceptable.
