Title V Block Grant
Title V Block Grant Application and Annual Report
Since 1935, the federal government has given money to states to support activities to improve the health of women, infants, children, adolescents, and their families. The money is given in the form of a block grant. States are required to match every four federal dollars with three state dollars. Block grant funds support state and local activities related to maternal and child health.
To receive the block grant, each year the Office of Maternal and Child Health must submit an application and report to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration,
Maternal and Child Health Bureau. The application includes data on several national and state performance measures, a budget summary, and a report on past, present, and planned activities. Every five years, the application also includes a comprehensive needs assessment along with a set of priorities for the next five years. The Office of Maternal and Child Health conducted a needs assessment in 2009/2010. The
results of the 2010 Needs Assessment are available below.
