Bright Futures in Health Promotion The Bright Futures in Early Childhood Project is complete. Early Childhood Care and Education Programs was a project conducted by the Washington State Department of Health, Office of Maternal and Child Health, and the University of Washington Center on Human Development and Disability. The funding for this project came from a special congressional appropriation awarded to the Department of Health in August 2004 and administered through the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families. Funding for this project ran through June 30, 2006. Pilot sites for the project came from a diverse sample of children, parents,
and programs across the state. Early childhood care and education programs, such
as Head Start, Early Head Start, Early Childhood Education and Assistance
Program, and child care centers, are using Bright
Futures principles and materials to improve health knowledge and outcomes for
their children and families. Participating programs sent representatives to
regional trainings where they were immersed in Bright Futures materials and
messages, and given the tips and tools that make it easier for them to meet
health goals in their programs.
There were eleven programs participating in the project, representing a total of 64 individual early childhood centers and at least 2,500 children. For more detailed information on the sites, please see Early Childhood Program site information. Order Your Free Bright Futures Guidebook!
