Drug and Alcohol ScreeningDepartment of Health Maternal Substance Abuse Screening Quality Improvement ActivitiesSubstance abuse during pregnancy is an issue critical to the health of mothers and babies from all socioeconomic groups. Treatment for substance abuse during pregnancy can be more effective than at other times in a woman’s life. Providers play an important role in influencing the health behaviors of pregnant women in their care. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends that all pregnant women be questioned thoroughly about substance abuse. State Department of Health Activities:
