family and the community. ASDC

American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association (ASHA)
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is an on-line resource for professionals,
the public, and students. Providing news, a resource center, and
continuing education in the human communication field.
Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guarantees equal opportunity
for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment,
transportation, state and local government services, and
telecommunications. This website provides federal resources and
publications about the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Centers for Disease
Control (CDC) - Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Program
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) assists states and territories in
developing and implementing the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention
(EHDI) Program. The CDC also supports research efforts in the areas of
newborn hearing screening, diagnostic evaluation and early intervention. This website provides educational
resources about newborn hearing loss and information about national EHDI
programs.
Children
with Special Health Care Needs Program (CSHCN)
The Washington State Department of Health's Children with Special Health
Care Needs (CSHCN) Program serves children under the age of 18
who have, or are at risk for, physical, behavioral or emotional conditions
requiring services beyond those usually needed by children.
This website provides resources related to the CSHCN Program.

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
The
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law that directs how states and agencies provide early
intervention services to infants, children, and youth (birth-21 years)
with disabilities. This website provides information related to the
federal IDEA Act.

of Dimes Washington State Chapter
The March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation works to improve the health
of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. They
do this by funding programs of community services, advocacy, research,
and education.

National Center for Hearing
Assessment and Management (NCHAM)
The
National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) is a center located at Utah State University that focuses on the
implementation and improvement of Early Hearing Detection and
Intervention (EHDI) systems. Their website
contains comprehensive information about the EHDI system, including:
newborn hearing screening, audiologic evaluation, early intervention,
family support, medical home, legislation, and EHDI program evaluation.
National Institute on Deafness
and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD)
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) provides research and information about hearing loss and other
communication disorders. Their website is updated regularly with news,
events, trainings and the latest research surrounding hearing loss.
Northwest Lions Foundation
The Northwest Lions Foundation is a charitable organization focusing on providing sight and hearing care.
The Foundation serves people of Washington State, Northern Idaho,
Montana, and Alaska who have sight and hearing needs. They work with
Lions Clubs in these regions to provide sight and hearing banks. The Foundation also offers financial support through Patient Care Grants
and Project Support Grants.
Office

The Washington State Department of Health's Office of Newborn Screening
tests the infants born in Washington State for certain treatable
disorders that may not otherwise be detected before developmental
disability or death occurs. Infants with these disorders typically
appear normal at birth. The testing and follow-up services of the office
allow diagnosis before significant, irreversible damage occurs.

Sensory Disabilities Services (WSDS)
The Washington Sensory Disabilities Services (WSDS) provides information,
training, technical assistance, and resources to families and educators
statewide regarding individuals from birth to 21 years of age with
sensory disabilities - people who are deaf, hard of hearing, visually
impaired, blind, or deaf-blind.

Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (WCAAP)
The Washington State Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (WCAAP) promotes the health and well-being of children in Washington
State and works to ensure that children receive quality care through a
medical home. Their website provides additional information about the WCAAP, parent resources, and legislative news and advocacy.
Washington State Department of
Social and Health Services (DSHS), Infant Toddler Early Intervention
Program (ITEIP)
The Infant Toddler Early Intervention Program (ITEIP) works with other state agencies to maintain a
statewide system of early intervention services that families may need
for their infants or toddles with disabilities. Family Resource
Coordinators (FRCs) in each county help families get services and
information.
Washington State Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH)
The Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH) provides services to
the deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind communities throughout
Washington State. ODHH contracts with six
community service centers located in Seattle, Tacoma, Vancouver, Pasco,
Spokane, and Bellingham to provide communication access, advocacy, sign
language interpreter information, workshops, information and referral,
counseling, outreach, and independent living support services to clients
and their families.

Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), National Office of
Public Health Genomics
The National Office of Public Health Genomics is the office within
the CDC that promotes the integration of genomics into public
health research, policy, and practice in order to improve the lives and
health of all people.
Gene Tests, Gene Clinics and
Gene Reviews
This genetic testing resource, funded by the National Institutes of
Health, includes: A genetics laboratory directory, a genetics clinic directory, an
introduction to genetic counseling and testing concepts (in About
Genetic Services), and a PowerPoint slideshow presentation for genetics
professionals (in Teaching Tools). This site also provides a clinical information resource relating genetic
testing to the diagnosis, management, and genetic counseling of
individuals and families with specific inherited disorders.

The Genetic Alliance is an organization that aims to bring together diverse
stakeholders to create novel partnerships in advocacy; integrate
individual, family, and community perspectives to improve health

The Genetics Education Partnership is a learning community of
kindergarten through 12th grade teachers, scientists, and genetics
professionals, from throughout Washington State, who are committed to
genetics teaching.
Genetic Services
Policy Project
The Genetic Services Policy Project (GSPP) was funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration.
The project
team for this four-year partnership between HRSA, DOH Genetic Services
Section, and the University of Washington collected information and
developed resources about genetic services in the United States.
The GSPP is no longer active, but materials are still available on their
website.

The Genetic Services Branch of the MCHB works to
facilitate the early identification of individuals with genetic
conditions and integrate them into systems of service and care that are

The Western States Genetic Services Collaborative is a federally funded multi-state project that seeks to coordinate and
increase access to genetic services among our states and territory.
The participating states and territory are: Alaska, California, Guam, Hawai'i, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
