SurveillancePregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS)The Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) survey is an ongoing, population-based surveillance system sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Office of Maternal and Child Health. Office of Maternal and Child Health conducts the PRAMS survey, maintains the data files, conducts analyses of PRAMS data, and generates quarterly and yearly reports. More information is available at the Washington State PRAMS web page and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) PRAMS web page. Child Death ReviewThe state Child Death Review (CDR) program gathers information on all unexpected deaths of children from birth through age 17, except those due to premature birth. When an unexpected death occurs, local Child Death Review teams gather data to gain a complete picture of the circumstances surrounding the death. They meet to determine if the death was preventable and what strategies could be used to prevent similar deaths in the future. Birth Defects (BDSS)The Birth Defects Surveillance Enhancement Plan was developed to create a consistent and thorough approach to improving birth defect surveillance in Washington State. Nine structural birth defects (i.e., anencephaly, spina bifida, cleft lip with/without cleft palate, cleft palate, 2° and 3° hypospadias, limb reduction defects, gastroschisis, omphalocele, and Down Syndrome) and three complex disorders (i.e., autism, cerebral palsy, and fetal alcohol syndrome) are part of the notifiable conditions regulation. For more information on birth defects: National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) Healthy Youth SurveyWashington State’s Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) is a collaborative effort of the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Department of Health, the Department of Social and Health Service's Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse, and Community Trade and Economic Development. The Healthy Youth Survey provides important information about adolescents in Washington. County prevention coordinators, community mobilization coalitions, community public health and safety networks, and others use this information to guide policy and programs that serve youth. Youth in public schools in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12 are surveyed every other year. For more information on the HYS: http://www3.doh.wa.gov/HYS/ |
