MIH AssessmentThe Key Indicators of Perinatal Health for Washington Residents became available from the Department of Health in June 2006. This document provides key information to identify perinatal health issues and help guide decision-making in state agencies. The indicators were derived from Washington State birth, fetal death, and death certificate data, the First Steps Database, and the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS). PRAMS: The Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) is an on-going state-specific, population-based surveillance system designed to identify and monitor selected maternal behaviors and experiences before, during and after pregnancy. For more information about PRAMS in Washington State, call 1-877-867-7267 or go to the Washington State PRAMS website or the national PRAMS web page. DSHS Research & Data Analysis Division (RDA): RDA provides analytical information and answers customer questions regarding risk, need, demand, use, supply, cost and outcomes of First Steps services funded by DSHS Medical Assistance Administration. DOH Vital Statistics: Vital statistics pertain to basic events of life, typically birth, death, marriage, and divorce. They provide powerful indicators of health problems and, therefore, can help us to track progress toward health improvement goals. MCH Assessment: This section of Maternal Child Health provides data, analysis, research, surveillance, and consultative support and management of all assessment-related activities in MCH. The Health of Washington State: MIH staff contributed to this document, which is a statewide assessment of health status, health risks, and health systems. Chapters by MIH authors include Infant Mortality, Low Birth Weight, Prenatal Care, Nutrition, Obesity, and Domestic Violence. |
