MIH Local and State PartnersPerinatal Advisory Committee (PAC): The PAC is staffed by MIH and brings together representatives from the four regional perinatal programs, professional organizations, consumer groups, and state agencies to review and assess perinatal health issues and assist in developing policies and practices to improve perinatal outcomes. WIC: (Women Infants and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program) WIC serves pregnant women and children up to age five. WIC is co-located with many First Steps agencies. Infectious Disease and Reproductive Health Office: MIH works closely with the HIV and the Family Planning Reproductive Health programs within the Office of Infectious Disease Reproductive Health at DOH. Collaborative activities are focused on reducing HIV and unintended pregnancy, and promoting preconceptional care. Local Health Departments: MIH program staff work closely with local health departments to oversee contract activities and provide consultation and technical assistance when needed. Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS): MIH and DSHS have much in common in their efforts to serve similar population groups with similar missions. Link to DSHS web page: http//www1.dshs.wa.gov or http://access.wa.gov/ Medical Assistance Administration (MAA): MIH coordinates activities with the First Steps Program which includes Maternity Support Services and Maternity Case Management. MAA supports additional programs in partnership with MIH, including Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, the DOH Tobacco Quit Line, and the Perinatal Regional Programs. University of Washington School of Nursing: MIH contracts with the UW School of Nursing for education and training of public health professionals. This includes training and support for the Nurse Family Partnerships (David Olds Home Visitation Pilots) and NCAST training for MSS community health nurses, pyschosocial workers and registered dieticians; and child care consultants. In addition, the UW School of Nursing is now providing a resource for maternal-child health providers state wide with the latest scientific information, best practice suggestions, and intervention strategies regarding prenatal care, health education, unstable family situations and newborn care through their program called Stepping Up: Prevention Strategies for Pregnancy, Parenting and Infancy.
