Perinatal Advisory Committee

A statewide Perinatal Advisory Committee was formed by the Department of Health in December 1985 to
  • identify and prioritize statewide perinatal concerns

  • identify need and make recommendations through specific work groups to address perinatal issues

  • provide consultation and recommend prioritized solutions to the Department of Health

In addition to physician and nurse members of each regional perinatal program, professional organizations and consumer groups make up the Perinatal Advisory Committee. The work of the committee is accomplished through ongoing quarterly meetings or through time limited subcommittee workgroups as needed.  Currently, the Perinatal Advisory Committee is working on the following priority issues:

  • Perinatal Level of Care Guidelines (PDF--227 KB links in this document may be outdated) support and dissemination
  • The Key Indicators of Perinatal Health for Washington Residents was revised in 2008.  This document provides key information to identify perinatal health issues and help guide decision-making in state agencies.  The indicators were derived from Washington State birth, fetal death, and death certificate data, the First Steps Database, and the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS).
  • Maternal Mortality reporting
