Bringing all the players to the table

Statewide and regional coalitions: The Washington State Department of Health provided funding and technical assistance to form statewide coalitions to complete work of the state plan.

Access to Healthy Foods Logo

Access to Healthy Foods Coalition is a group of businesses, industries, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to improve access to healthier foods. The coalition:

  • Became a non-profit organization in 2005.
  • Co-sponsored two Northwest Healthy Foods Expos which brought more than 40 vendors of healthy foods together with several hundred food buyers for schools and workplaces.

Washington Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity Logo

Washington Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity is a group of public and private sector activists working to promote regular physical activity to enhance health, fitness and quality of life for Washington residents. The coalition:

  • Became a non-profit organization in 2005.
  • Held statewide Active Living Leadership forums to bring together public health, zoning, transportation, fitness, education, government, law and some business interests to help reverse the trend of obesity and inactivity.
