Grant and Funding Opportunities

3-a-Day Grants 2007
Deadline:
Applications must be postmarked by April 6, 2007
T
he Washington State Dairy Council will award three $5,000 grants to organizations or individuals in Washington and/or Alaska  proposing nutrition education programs to help empower kids ages 9-18 to be advocates for healthy eating, including three servings of dairy a day. Applicants are encouraged to create a program designed for implementation within the school environment and to collaborate with schools and other community-based initiatives such as Action for Healthy Kids or Team Nutrition. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation:  Fresh Ideas: Community-Based Approaches to Improve Care for Vulnerable Populations grant program.
Deadline: Rolling
The purpose of this program is to promote community-based approaches to health and health care problems that interact with social problems. Examples include inadequate housing, poor education and poverty. Priority is given to projects that focus on hard-to-reach populations such as new immigrants and refugees and at-risk adolescents. Eligible applicants include organizations that are outside the formal network of healthcare providers, such as grassroots organizations, faith-based organizations and advocacy organizations that are public entities or nonprofit organizations. bullet The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Invites Research Proposals on Disparities Issues:  RWJF will consider projects of up to $75,000 with a one year time frame that address one or more of five key issues http://www.rwjf.org/portfolios/features/featuredetail.jsp?featureID=1586&type=3&iaid=133 RWJF seeks to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in the care of patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus type 2 and/or depression. To that end, RWJF invites research proposals that offer solutions towards reducing health care disparities.

Poverty and Obesity: Disparities in Diet and Health
This one-day conference will be held on Friday, March 2, 2007,  from 8:30 am-4:00 pm leading researchers, economists, funders, and policymakers will address the relationship between poverty and economic and physical access to healthy foods. The anticipated audience includes researchers, public health practitioners, funders, policymakers, and community members.  It will be held in the Portage Bay Room in the South Campus Center on the UW campus from 8:30 am-4:00 pm. Lunch and parking for off-campus attendees will be provided.  There is no cost to attend this event, but space is limited.
