Check Education Module

This training module (1MB) is designed to help WIC staff become familiar with practices related to educating clients about WIC approved foods and WIC checks. By completing the module, staff will have:
  • Identified foods that clients can buy with WIC checks.
  • Noted questions about WIC foods and WIC checks.
  • Reviewed check education methods and key education messages.
  • Connected areas of WIC checks with education messages.
  • Created a list of check education tools.

Civil Rights Module

These materials are designed to help local WIC agency staff fulfill their annual Civil Rights training requirements. The module and PowerPoint presentation include the same information and can be used independently or together depending on the staff person’s learning style. The materials can be reviewed independently or in a group setting. The learning assessment provides the opportunity to evaluate staff’s knowledge about the information included in the module. An answer key is provided.

Client Services 6.1—ProviderOne Search Tool Training

Client Services 6.1 will be in clinics on May 17, 2010. It will have a new ProviderOne search tool. These training materials will help staff learn how to use the new search tool, review WIC’s income eligibility rules, and get a sneak preview of how staff will know if a ProviderOne card holder is income eligible for WIC. The training materials include one written section, one PowerPoint presentation and two demonstrations.

Customer Service Module

This module (559KB) is designed to help WIC staff build their customer service skills. Upon completion of this module, trainees will have:
  • Identified what customers commonly expect from customer service providers.
  • Noted two ways to meet and possibly exceed customers’ expectations.
  • Prepared for dealing with negative situations in the clinic by reviewing steps to take when confronted with difficult clients or situations.
  • Practiced changing negative responses into positive responses.
  • Taken steps to build their “nerve to serve” by exploring ways of handling difficult situations that could occur in the clinic.

These learner-centered nutrition in-services are ready-to-use in-services designed to be an effective, useful and meaningful resource for nutritionists and staff. The in-services support paraprofessionals/CPA’s in meeting the competency for monthly nutrition training.

Nutrition Risk Changes Phase 2 Training

Staff who weigh and measure pregnant clients and review prenatal weight gain grids should receive Nutrition Risk Changes Phase 2 Training – Prenatal Weight Gain Grids and Risks between June 27th and July 25th. Prenatal Weight Gain Grids and Weight Risks are changing on July 25, 2011.

Schedule 1½ to 2 hours to review the training, discuss and complete activities. State trainers provide the training via an audio recording and PowerPoint presentation. Training is divided in two parts. If you have questions about the training, please contact Marian Polsak.

Nutrition Risk Changes Phase 1 Training

Some of WIC's nutrition risks changed in February 2011. Nutrition Risk Changes Phase 1 Training provides staff with the information needed to assess for the new and revised risk factors. WIC staff who certify clients or assess risks should receive this training. The materials can be reviewed independently or in a group setting.

State trainers provide the training via an audio recording and PowerPoint presentation. Listen/view the recorded training (audio with PowerPoint) and download hand-outs and other materials that support the training.

Peer Counseling Webinar
