PIRT Members
What we do
The PIRT Review Panel consists of
representatives from six state agencies, the University of Washington,
Washington State University, the Washington Poison Center, a toxicologist
and a member of the public. The legislature mandated the PIRT panel under
RCW 70.104 to ensure that state agencies
responsible for pesticide regulation coordinate their incident
investigations, reporting, and education activities in a timely manner
to protect workers and the public from pesticide misuse.
How we do it
The PIRT Review Panel:

Meets
monthly (chaired by DOH) to review pesticide investigations, trends, and incidents of unusual complexity;

Establishes
guidelines for receiving information about pesticide-related health and environmental incidents;

Reviews agency
procedures for investigation of pesticide incidents and makes recommendations for improvement if needed;
-
Makes
recommendations when inadequacies are identified in state and/or federal law that result in insufficient
protection of public health and safety;
-
Monitors state
agencies» response time in reporting pesticide incidents.
The PIRT Review Panel
provides the Governor, agency heads, Legislature, and public with an
annual report of PIRT activities and agency pesticide incidents.
