Washington Environmental
Public Health Tracking Network (WTN) in Action: Demonstration
Projects
Environmental Integration and Exposure Impact Observation System
(EIEIO)
WTN is developing computer applications to access fish
contamination data from the
Department of Ecology to provide advice for the public on how to
choose fish that are low in contaminants. This effort is a model of
how to tap in to environmental data using the
National Environmental
Information Exchange Network which has been implemented by
Ecology.
Capturing Pesticide Illnesses through
Electronic Reporting
WTN has established and continues to improve automatic
electronic reporting of pesticide poisoning reports from
Washington
Poison Center and the
Department of Labor and Industries to the Washington State
Department of Health (DOH). This has reduced reporting time and
allowed DOH to electronically track case reports and investigation
assignments.
Monitoring Student Health and School
Building Environments
WTN has supported pilot projects in three school districts
aimed at demonstrating the development of systematic and sustainable
electronic student health and school environmental quality data
collection methods. Recommendations for the standardized collection
and coding of student health data along with recommendations for
implementation of school environmental monitoring programs have also
been developed. Through the electronic collection of these data,
schools are better able to monitor trends in student health and the
quality of the learning environment.
