Office of Drinking Water Rules Stage 2 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts Rule We are beginning rulemaking for the Stage 2 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts Rule ("Stage 2") (PDF KB), as required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The public health objective of this rule is to increase protection against the potential risks for cancer, reproductive, and developmental health effects associated with disinfection byproducts. The rule requires water systems to reduce peak and average levels of disinfection byproducts in drinking water supplies. If you have technical questions or concerns about the rule, email Ethan Moseng, Surface Water Program Coordinator, or call him at (253) 395-6770. Group B Public Water Systems, chapter 246-291 WAC The state adopted the Group B public water system rule in 1994. Over the last 15 years, we learned a lot from our experience in regulating these very small water systems. Based on this knowledge, we believe changes are needed to better focus on core public health protection. Visit our Group B Web Page for more information. Drinking Water Laboratory Certification, chapter 246-390 WAC
Last spring, the Department of Health's Office of Drinking Water prepared a draft rule for reporting laboratory data for public drinking water system monitoring compliance analyses. A revised version of this rule has been prepared based on comments received from labs and public water systems over the past year. If you have any questions about the Drinking Water Laboratory Data Reporting Rule, please contact Dick Pedlar, Laboratory Issues Coordinator, at (360) 236-3115. Federal Groundwater Rule U.S. Environmental Protection Agency adopted the Groundwater Rule on November 8, 2006. The rule increases public health protection by reducing the risk of viruses and bacteria in drinking water wells. This rule revision will apply to all Group A community and non-community water systems that serve groundwater. For more information, read the Rule Revision to Begin notice.(PDF 72KB)
