Key to Data in Public Water System General Data Files

Data Type Description
PwsID Text - 5 The ID which uniquely identifies a PWS.  Assigned by the Office of Drinking Water when a new PWS is identified.
SystemName Text - 5 The name of a public water system.
Group Text - 1 A single character, A or B, that represents the category of the system.
County Text - 20 The name of the county where the PWS is located.
OwnerTypeDesc Text - 35 A description of the type of ownership for a given PWS.
ResPop Numeric - 6 The residential population served by the PWS.
ResConn Numeric - 6 The quantity of active residential connections for a given PWS.
TotalConn Numeric - 8 The total number of connections for a given PWS.
EffectiveDate Date - 8 The date on which a PWS becomes effective, i.e. identified as an active PWS by the Office of Drinking Water.
PwsAttn Text - 35 First address line pertaining to a specific PWS.
PwsAddress2 Text - 35 Second line of the mailing address pertaining to a PWS.
PwsCity Text - 35 The city name of the PWS address.
PwsState Text - 2 The state name of the PWS address.
PwsZipCode Text - 9 The zip code of the PWS address.
ApprovServices  Numeric - 7 The quantity of approved services (per plans) for a given PWS.

Data Type Description

Src_Name Text - 35 The official or standard name of a given source as determined by the PWS.
SourceType Text - 35 A description of the type of source.
SourceUse Text - 35 A description of the use of the source (emergency, seasonal, permanent).
TrObjective Text - 35 The name of the treatment objective related to a specific source.
TrProcess Text - 35 The description of the treatment process for a given PWS of drinking water source.
Src_EffectiveDate Date - 8 The date on which a given source becomes effective, i.e. becomes actively used by the PWS as a source of drinking water.
Src_InactiveDate Date - 8 The date on which a given source is no longer active, i.e. is not being used as a source of drinking water.
