DOH Draft Rule Revision
In November 2002, the Department of Ecology (Ecology) took on the role of laboratory accreditation for drinking water analyses under chapter 173-50 WAC. Previously, the program had been administered by DOH (chapter 246-390 WAC). The DOH rule no longer applies to the technical capability of a laboratory to perform drinking water analyses, but it has remained in effect for those elements important to DOH that are not covered by Ecology. In June 2006, the State Board of Health approved our request to revise the DOH rule (see draft rule at right). All elements covered by the Ecology regulations need to be deleted. For the remaining elements, two critical interests need to be addressed:
Workshops are scheduled to provide an opportunity to learn more about the draft drinking water reporting rule and to provide a forum for discussion and comment. For questions on the DOH draft rule contact Theresa Phillips at (360) 236-3147.
