Radiation Protection Rulemaking Activities
Low-level radioactive waste
disposal site surveillance fee increase.
Radiation Protection fees -
chapter 246-254 WAC
On June 5, 2012, we will have an informational session
and a public hearing on the
proposed rule changes for the low-level radioactive waste disposal site
surveillance fee increase, chapter 246-254 WAC.
In 2011, the state Legislature gave us the authority to
increase the low-level radioactive waste site surveillance fee to "meet the
actual costs of conducting business." The proposed fee increase is necessary
to offset the costs of program activities related to regulatory oversight of
the site and maintain our agreement with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission. In addition, editorial changes are also included to clarify who
must pay the site surveillance fee.
The public hearing is one way for you to provide formal
comments us before we adopt the rule.
