Mammography Inspection ProgramEvery year, we inspect facilities using mammography machines under a contract with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, following their standards based on the MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) law passed by the U.S. Congress in 1992. Contact our office for a pamphlet of information and a brief summary of the data collected from MQSA inspections done in Washington State from 1999 through 2001. This inspection program is common to almost every state and involves specialized training of our inspectors who use a laptop computer system to enter and upload compliance data. Facilities are required to be certified by the American College of Radiology and must demonstrate credentialing of physician, technologist and medical physicist, as well as adherence to quality control measures and patient dose maximums and image quality minimums. The Center for Devices and Radiological Health provides more details. |
