On-Site Sewage System Operation & Maintenance Program - In November 2005, the Thurston County Board of Health created the Henderson Watershed Protection Area (HWPA).
The purpose of the HWPA is to reduce the amount of fecal bacteria pollution in Henderson Inlet that is coming from failing septic systems. The program establishes more
rigorous maintenance and inspection requirements for all septic systems within the boundaries of the watershed protection area to ensure that septic
systems are working properly. The program went into effect in 2007, and will be phased in over a 3-year period.
