TRAINING COURSE INSTRUCTORS
Terri
Foxx-Wishert, MT(ASCP) H, SH is currently the Laboratory Director at
Auburn Regional Medical Center. She has over twenty-five years of experience in
the clinical laboratory field.
Yolanda Houze was a clinical microbiologist
for 23 years at the University of Washington Clinical Microbiology Laboratory
before moving to the Washington State Department of Health Public Health
Laboratories. While at the University she was involved with training
undergraduates, medical students, residents, post-doctoral fellows and
infectious disease fellows. Her area of interest was the identification of
unusual and difficult to identify organisms which led her to be the reference
bacteriologist for the University and for other area hospitals and laboratories.
While at the University she developed the bio-terrorism response plan for that
laboratory and is now the Bioterrorism Response Coordinator and Supervisor in
the Microbiology Division at the Washington State Public Health Laboratories.

Rebecca Howell, MT(ASCP) is currently
employed by Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound performing laboratory
testing in Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis. She has over twenty years of
experience in the clinical laboratory field.
Brenna Jacobson has been the FERN Training
Coordinator since December 2009. She is a graduate of Washington State
University with a B.S. in Microbiology. Brenna has 4.5 years experience working
in the WA State PHL Food Microbiology and Parasitology Labs. She has worked in
BSL 2 and BSL 3 laboratories doing food testing, performing FDA, USDA, FERN, and
LRN methods and has experience performing and validating real time PCR methods.
Laura Kentala has over 20 years experience in
both clinical and Environmental microbiology. She has worked in both public
health and private laboratories. Laura has a Bachelors of Arts degree in Zoology
with a minor in Microbiology from the University of Washington. Laura has many
years experience in teaching classes at the Washington State Public Health
Laboratories in clinical parasitology and water bacteriology.
Kathy LaBeau, MT(ASCP) is a laboratory
surveyor and consultant for the office of Laboratory Quality Assurance,

Shelley Lankford has a B.S. in Biology
with a specialization in Microbiology and is the Training Program Manager for
the Department of Health, Public Health Laboratories. Prior to this position she
was the lead microbiologist of the food and water laboratories for 7 years
supporting foodborne illness outbreaks and testing of water to ensure good
quality drinking water and shellfish growing waters in Washington State. The
most famous event of her career was the Jack-In-The-Box E. coli O157:H7 outbreak
in 1993. Shelley has been with the Washington State Department of Health Public

Paul Marbourg is a member of the WA State DOH
PHL's Chemistry Incident Response Unit and also works as a Laboratory Program
Advisor for the PHL's Training Department. He holds an A.S. in Chemistry from
Canada College in Redwood City, CA, and a B.S. in Chemistry from The University
of Washington in Seattle, WA. Paul has numerous years of experience working as a
bench chemist in many different capacities and has managed several small

Chuck Talburt
is a graduate of the University of Washington with a BS degree in Microbiology.
He has over 30 years experience as a public health microbiologist with the
Washington State Department of Health Public Health Laboratories. He has over
twelve years experience as a trainer on a variety of microbiological-related
topics such as Packaging and Shipping Division 6.2 Materials. His email address
