Benton-Franklin Health District
The
Benton-Franklin Health District is offering H1N1 vaccinations to
the general public beginning Tuesday, December 15, 2009. The CDC
high risk groups previously identified remain a priority because
of their increased possibility of serious illness and
complications, but anyone wishing to receive a vaccination may
now call and schedule an appointment to receive H1N1 vaccine.
Appointments can be made by calling (509) 460-4510. Appointments
will be scheduled at the BFHD Kennewick Office, 7102 West
Okanogan Place.
Vaccine is also available to the general public through
healthcare providers, community health clinics, and pharmacies.
We
appreciate your desire to protect yourself and your family from
this new virus with a vaccination. We do urge you to continue
with personal precautions as well. Remember to wash your hands,
cover your cough, and stay home when you are sick.
If
you or your family members catch the flu, you will likely feel
sick for up to a week. It is important to keep the sick person
hydrated by drinking lots of fluids and help keep the fever down
with non-aspirin fever-reducing medication. Stay home until
24-hours after the fever is gone (without the use of
medication), and call your healthcare provider if symptoms get
worse.

sufficient to allow for mass vaccination clinics, they will be
advertised in the media and on our Web site.
Please remember to cover your cough. Wash your hands often. And
stay home when you are ill for 24 hours after your fever
stopped, without use of fever reducing medications.

Because of the increased vaccine supplies and the success of
vaccinating those in the priority groups, the Grant County
Health Officer has issued a recommendation to immediately expand
2009 H1N1 influenza vaccinations in Grant County to all
individuals 6 months of age and older who wish to be
vaccinated. Healthcare providers and pharmacies may begin
vaccinating the general public but are asked to continue their
efforts of reaching out to the ACIP priority groups because they
are at highest risk for getting infected with the virus.
Please, contact your health care provider for vaccination hours
and locations. In addition to healthcare providers who
registered as vaccine administrators, Moses Lake Safeway
Pharmacy, Moses Lake Walgreens, Ephrata Safeway Pharmacy and

How can I find H1N1 vaccine?
-
Check with your medical provider. Be
understanding that their supplies change daily, and they may
not always have the specific type of vaccine that you or
your child need.
-
Check with the following area pharmacies:
Walgreens, Safeway, Fred Meyer, Rite Aid, Kitsap Pharmacy at
Central Market and Albertsons Sav-on Pharmacies. Call first
to find out whether they have the kind of vaccine you need
and what age groups they can vaccinate.
-
Check our website or call our Flu Line
(see bleow). We update them every Monday by noon with the
latest news on H1N1 vaccine availability:
Kittitas County Public Health Department

clinic will be hosted by the health department on Saturday,
January 9, at the Walter Strom Middle School in Cle Elum.
Vaccinations will be free of charge. The clinic will open at 9
a.m. and continue until 12 p.m. on a first-come, first-served
basis. If long lines form, patients will be given a

All schools have received one school-based vaccination clinic. A
second school-based clinic will be held at each elementary
school to administer the recommended second dose of vaccine to
children up through (and including) age nine. Only students who
received a first dose of vaccine at a school-based clinic will
be eligible for the follow-up dose at school. Packets with
