Licensing Requirements

Application

Fee for application and certification

Title Description

A brief description of your therapeutic orientation, discipline, theory, or technique.

Education as defined in WAC 246-810-023 and WAC 246-810-024

Have an associate degree which included a supervised internship in a counseling-related field.

Examination

Pass an examination in risk assessment, ethics, appropriate screening using the global assessment of functioning scale, client referral, and Washington state law, as set in WAC 246-810-023.

Fee for examination or reexamination

Examination fee may be submitted when applicant is approved for examination.

Supervisory Agreement

A written supervisory agreement that meets the requirements in WAC 246-810-025 with a credential holder who meets the qualifications to be a supervisor in WAC 246-810-026.

Four (4) hours of HIV/AIDS education and training.

Verification of all registrations, certifications, or licenses you now hold or have held in other states.

Continuing Education

Certified advisers must complete 36 credit hours of continuing education every two years. At least six of the 36 credit hours must be in law and professional ethics related to counseling. The first date to report the required continuing education begins with a credential holder?s renewal date in 2011 for those first credentialed in 2009. Acceptable continuing education is defined in WAC 246-810-027 and WAC 246-810-029.
