Title description
A brief description of your therapeutic orientation,
discipline, theory, or technique.
Education as defined in WAC 246-810-0221 and WAC 246-810-024
There are two alternatives to qualify for Certified Counselor:
Alternative A
If you have a bachelors or advanced degree in a counseling-related field listed in WAC 246-810-024, you qualify under Alternative A. Indicate the degree, date degree was granted, field, and educational institution. Have your school send official school transcripts directly to the Certified Counselor Program.
Alternative B
If you have a bachelors degree, but your degree is not in a counseling-related field listed in WAC 246-810-024, you qualify under Alternative B if at least one third of the courses you completed as part of your bachelors degree were in subjects listed in WAC 246-810-024. Indicate the degree, date degree was granted, field, and educational institution. List the title, educational institution, and date of courses taken next to the appropriate subjects. Have your school send official school transcripts directly to the Certified Counselor Program.
Examination
Pass an examination in risk assessment, ethics,
appropriate screening using the global assessment of
functioning scale, client referral, and Washington State
law. WAC 246-810-022
Fee for examination or reexamination: The exam fee is paid online by credit/debit card at the time you register for an exam.
Supervisory Agreement
A written supervisory agreement that meets the
requirements in WAC 246-810-025 with a credential holder who
meets the qualifications to be a supervisor in WAC
246-810-026.
Four (4) hours of HIV/AIDS education and training.
Verification of all registrations, certifications, or
license you now hold or have held in other states.
Continuing Education
Certified counselors must complete 36 credit hours of
continuing education every two years. At least six of the 36
credit hours must be in law and professional ethics related
to counseling. The first date to report the required
continuing education begins with a credential holder?s
renewal date in 2011 for those first credentialed in 2009.
Acceptable continuing education is defined in WAC
246-810-027 through WAC 246-810-029. |
