A new state law created eight
counseling credentials beginning July 1,
2009. It abolishes the registered counselor
credential on July 1, 2010. Counseling
applicants must apply in one of the new
categories.

Registered counselors who applied for certified counselor under Alternative C will have until September 30, 2010 to complete and pass the examination.
Failure to pass the examination by September 30 will disqualify applicants for the degree waiver.
Note: Anyone providing counseling in Washington must have an active credential. The above policy does not change this requirement. Registered counselors who do not have a new credential by July 1, 2010 must stop practicing.
- Note to Graduates or New Applicants
If you are graduating soon or want to get a counselor credential, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. With the increase in applications for us to process, it may take longer for you to get your credential.
