Doing Business in
Washington

For further assistance with your Washington State business requirements, visit the Learn about Doing Business in Washington Web site.

Licensing Requirements:

Transient Accommodations (TA) are as "...any facility such as a hotel, motel, condominium, resort, or any other facility or place offering three or more lodging units to guests for periods of less than 30 days." (chapter 246-360-010(28) WAC).  Example of TA's include hotels, motels, inns, resorts, and bed and breakfast facilities.

If you are providing or planning to provide lodging to people, you may need a Transient Accommodations license from the Department of Health.  In addition, you will need a Master Business License (also known as Uniform Business Identifier (UBI) number).  For those of you planning on preparing and serving food, you will need to meet the requirements of the food service regulations (chapter 246-215 WAC).  You will also need to check with your city or county to see if they have additional requirements that you must meet.
