In 2008, the
legislature authorized fee increases for the professions the
Department of Health regulates. Fees changed August 1,
2008 for 43 health professions. They increased September
1, 2008 for nine more health professions. The department
finalized the fee increases after considering extensive
public comments.
Under state law, each profession must be
self-supporting through the fees that each practitioner
pays. The number of licensees in a profession and the cost
of administering the profession affect fees. Costs include
credentialing and background checks, expenses for
boards/commissions/committees, complaints received,
investigations, and discipline.
In 2007 legislation amended
RCW 43.70.110 to
require that DOH assess a fee on 14 professions to
access certain online resources through the
University of Washington (UW). See the

profession.
Making Payments
