Licensing Requirements
There are two methods of licensure available to individuals interested in practicing as a denturist in Washington State.
Application for Licensure by Endorsement:
In accordance with RCW 18.30.090(1a-b), any Denturist licensed to practice denturism under the statutory provisions of another state, with licensing standards substantially equivalent to Washington State, shall be licensed without examination upon providing the department with the following.
- Proof of successfully passing both a written and clinical examination for denturism in a state that has substantially equivalent standards as those in Washington State.
- An affidavit from the state agency where the person is licensed, attesting to the fact of the applicant's licensure.
The following states have been determined to meet the equivalency standards as set in RCW 18.30.090(1):
- Maine
- Montana (if licensed by exam and not endorsement)
- Oregon
Application for Licensure by Examination:
- Document successful completion of formal training with a major course of study in denturism of not less than two years duration at an educational institution recognized by the Washington State Board of Denturists.
and
- Pass a written and clinical examination approved by the board.
The following denturist educational programs have been recognized by the Washington State Board of Denturists:
- George Brown College(Ontario, Canada)
- Northern Alberta Institute of Technology(Alberta, Canada)
- Bates Technical College(Tacoma, Washington)
- Vancouver Community College (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
Address Change
It is the responsibility of each practitioner to maintain his or her current address on file with the department. Requests for an address change may be made either by telephone or in writing. The mailing address on file with the department will be used for the mailing of all official matters to the practitioners.
License Renew
Your denturist license will expire every other year on your birthday. Any renewal fees post marked or presented to the department after midnight on the expiration date is late. There is no grace period.
Prior to the expiration date of your license, courtesy renewal notices are mailed to the address on file. Failure to receive a courtesy renewal notice does not relieve or exempt the license renewal requirement.
