Credentialing Requirements
RCW 18.138.020 Certification required
- No Persons shall represent themselves as certified dietitians or certified nutritionists unless certified as provided for in this chapter.
- Persons represent themselves as certified dietitians or certified nutritionists when any title or any description of services is used which incorporates one or more of the following items or designations: "Certified dietitian," "certified dietician," "certified nutritionist," "D.," "C.D.," or "C.N."
Individuals applying for certification as a certified dietitian must submit:
- A completed application form with fee;
- Verification of AIDS education and training; and
- Verification of current registration status with the commission on dietetic registration.
or
Individuals applying for certification as a certified dietitian who have not passed the required written examination or who are not registered with the commission on dietetic registration must:
- Provide transcripts forwarded directly from the issuing college or university showing completion of a baccalaureate degree or higher in a major course of study in human nutrition, foods and nutrition, dietetics, or food management;
- Provide evidence of completion of a continuous preprofessional experience or coordinated undergraduate program in dietetics under the supervision of a qualified supervisor;
- Take and pass the required written examination; and
- Provide verification of AIDS education and training.
Individuals applying for certification as a certified nutritionist must submit:
- A completed application form with fee; and
- Documentation that the applicant meets the application requirements for certified dietitians, as listed in (1) or (2) above; or
- Transcripts forwarded directly from the issuing college or university showing completion of a masters or doctorate degree in one of the following subject areas: Human nutrition, nutrition education, foods and nutrition, or public health nutrition; and
- Verification of AIDS education and training.
Address Change
It is the responsibility of each practitioner to maintain his or her current address on file with the department. Requests for an address change must be made in writing. The mailing address on file with the department will be used for the mailing of all official matters to the practitioners.
License Renew
Your Dietitian and Nutritionist license will expire each year on your birthday. Any renewal fees post marked or presented to the department after midnight on the expiration date is late. There is no grace period.
Prior to the expiration date of your license, courtesy renewal notices are mailed to the address on file. Failure to receive a courtesy renewal notice does not relieve or exempt the license renewal requirement.
