A

Administer is the direct application of a drug or device, whether by injection, inhalation, ingestion, or any other means, to the body of a patient or research subject. RCW 18.64.011(23).

Adult Family Homes (AFH) is a community based setting in a residential home licensed to care from two to six residents. Chapter 388-76 WAC.

B

Boarding Home (BH) is a community based setting in a facility licensed to care for seven or more residents. Chapter 388-78A WAC

C

Caregiver is anyone providing hands-on personal care and/or assistance with daily care.

Community-based care settings is a community residential programs for the developmentally disabled, certified by the Department of Social and Health Services under chapter 71A.12 RCW; adult family homes licensed under chapter 70.128 RCW; and boarding homes licensed under chapter 18.20 RCW. Community-based care settings do not include acute care or nursing facilities.

D

Document is to record, with signature, title, date and time the information required by law, rule or policy.

I

In-Home Setting is an individual?s place of temporary or permanent residence that does not include acute care or skilled nursing and not a community-based care setting. RCW 18.79.260 (3)(e)(ii)

In-Home Services Agency is services that are provided by home health, hospice and home care agencies and hospice care centers licensed by the Department of Health, Facilities and Services Licensing. Chapter 70.127 RCW, Chapter 246-335 WAC

Individual Provider (IP) is a person employed by an individual to provide personal care services in their own home. WAC 388-106-0010

Legend drugs are a drug bearing the legend, "caution, federal law prohibits dispensing without a prescription?. RCW 69.41.010; WAC 246-865-010 (5); Chapter 246-888 WAC.

M

Medication administration See Administer

Medication assistance is assistance rendered by a caregiver to an individual residing in a community-based care setting or in-home care setting as described in Chapter 246-888 WAC.

Medication organizer is a container with separate compartments for storing oral medications organized in daily doses. WAC 388-78A-202(1)

N

Nurse is a person who holds a license to practice as a registered nurse in this state. A nurse may use the titles: ?registered nurse?; ?nurse?, and the abbreviation ?R.N.? No other person may assume those titles or use the abbreviation or any other words, letters, signs, or figures to indicate that the person using them is a registered nurse. RCW 18.79.030

Nurse Delegation is when the registered nurse transfers the performance of selected nursing tasks to competent nursing assistants in selected situations. The registered nurse delegating the task retains the responsibility and accountability for the nursing care of the patient RCW 18.79.260; WAC 246-840-910 to 970.

O

Over-the-counter (OTC) medication is any medication that may be legally purchased without a prescriptive order, including, but not limited to, aspirin, antacids, vitamins, minerals, or herbal preparations. Chapter 246-888 WAC.

R

Resident is the individual recipient of nursing actions. In the community residential settings, the resident may also be referred to as resident, consumer, individual or patient.

S

Self-Directed Care must be directed by an adult resident for whom the health-related tasks are provided. The adult resident is responsible to train the individual provider in the health-related tasks which the resident self-directs. WAC 388-71-05640; Chapter 74.39 RCW.

Supported Living services are instruction and supports offered by service providers to residents who live in or are establishing their own homes. WAC 388-101-1240
