What is the practical experience pathway?
The practical experience pathway allows an applicant for veterinary technician licensure to qualify to sit for the Veterinary Technician Licensing Examination (VTNE) by accumulating five years of experience. The applicant completes specific required tasks and procedures during the five years.
How will veterinary technician applicants qualify to take the VTNE after July 1, 2015?
After July 1, 2015, applicants must complete a postsecondary education program for animal or veterinary technology. The program must be approved by the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
Is it too late to begin the five year period of practical experience?
Applicants must begin the period of practical experience before July 1, 2010.
What tasks and procedures must be completed during the period of practical experience?
On April 12, 2010, the Veterinary Board of Governors adopted rules identifying standard tasks and procedures that must be included during the training.
