Report Suicide Responsibly Reporting about a suicide event or about the topic of suicide in general can be a challenging task for the media. On one hand, you want to report about someone’s life and death, yet on the other hand you need to be sensitive to the family’s needs and to the potential for others to consider suicide. Reporting on or about suicide is an opportunity to talk about the affects suicide has on families, friends, businesses and communities. It is also a time when there needs to be care taken so as not to create a contagion effect where others attempt suicide. One thing a reporter should always do is note the warning signs of suicide and give local, state and/or national resources that the public can turn to if they want more information or need to seek help.
