Suicide is Preventable

Hotline 1-800-273-8255

Lifeline Website

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for Washington State youth (those who are between the ages of 10 and 24). Yet, research shows that majority of suicide is preventable. The Washington State Department of Health (DOH), in partnership with many organizations and residents of our state, is committed to preventing the tragedy of suicide.

The mission of public health is to improve the health of individuals and communities. One important part of that is reducing premature death. Because suicide is one of the leading causes of early death in Washington, preventing it improves the overall health of local communities and our state. Our goal with this web site is to:

  • Support your work to prevent suicide.

  • Provide information on how to get help for yourself or someone you know who may be suicidal.

  • Give you data that helps describe the scope of the problem.

  • Link you to information and resources that lead to the prevention of suicide.
