If you have any questions regarding the SEI Qualification Process, please call 360-236-2840

Recognition of Senior EMS Instructors does two essential things.  First, it provides a consistent qualification process developed to enhance the standards of EMS instruction for the State of Washington and to encourage continuing quality improvement.  Second, it protects Senior EMS Instructors from liability when providing education and training following the standards adopted by the State of Washington, while performing under the supervision of a  physician certified as Medical Program Director (MPD) or MPD Delegate.

The MPD oversees the education and training process by approving the initial training, continuing medical education and the instructional personnel providing the education and training.

The EMS and Trauma System Section of the Office of Community Health Systems functions as the entity that establishes and maintains the integrity of EMS education and training.  We are expected to ensure the training provided meets adopted standards so the citizens of Washington have the most reliable and trustworthy emergency care.  In order to do this, each EMS provider must not only meet the minimum initial training requirements, they must also maintain training and skills through continuing medical education.

The information that follows will provide guidelines to become initially qualified as a Senior EMS Instructor, or to meet requirements for renewal of recognition.
