Trauma Designation, Registry and Quality Improvement Section - Develops a system of trauma care that addresses the hospital care needs of severely injured patients in Washington and monitors the EMS and trauma system through a process of data collection, data analysis and continuous quality improvement:

  • Establishes minimum standards for hospital-based trauma services and providers;
  • Designates hospitals to provide trauma services;
  • Provides consultation and technical assistance to trauma services and trauma care providers;
  • Collects data on seriously injured patients;
  • Develops a process to collect data on all prehospital runs;
  • Provides data reporting, analysis and evaluation of clinical care, system performance and patient outcomes at the local, regional and statewide level;
  • Develops clinical care guidelines and policies and processes for system management;
  • Provides data and technical support to the EMS and Trauma Care Councils for planning and needs assessment.
