A survey team consisting of a Public Health Advisor surveyor and a Registered Nurse surveyor conduct most facility surveys.

  • The Public Health Advisor (PHA) has training and expertise in public health issues and advanced training for fire and life safety subjects.

  • The Registered Nurse Surveyor has a Master’s Degree in nursing or a related health field and experience in management and administration of health care facilities.

The Medicare survey for Renal Dialysis facilities is one-two days duration.

The Medicare survey for an Ambulatory Surgery Center is typically of one day duration.

The Medicare survey for a Rehabilitation facility is typically of one day duration.

For the above facilities, all Medicare re-certification surveys  or investigations are un-announced.

The survey for Hospitals is of a two-five days duration, depending on the size of the facility. For larger hospitals, more than one team of surveyors is on site.

For hospitals the state re-license survey and Medicare recertification surveys are done simultaneously, and announced to the facility 10 - 14 days prior to the survey.
