a healthy dose of
information

In 2006 the Washington Legislature directed the Department of Health to adopt rules about mandatory reporting of health care practitioners who commit unprofessional conduct or are unable to practice safely.

The department adopted rules on March 31, 2008. These cover all practitioners regulated by the department secretary, a board or a commission. These rules can be found in chapter 246-16 WAC.

In 2008 the Legislature again amended state law on mandatory reporting. The new law adds more reporting requirements. The department must change rules in chapter 246-16 WAC to address the new law. The timeline highlights the new rulemaking process.

You can join the list of interested persons for email notices or get more information by emailing Margaret Gilbert at margaret.gilbert@doh.wa.gov.  You do not need to sign up again if you were on the list from the previous rulemaking.
