Health Professional Loan Repayment
and
Scholarship Information |

The Health Professional Loan Repayment and Scholarship programs were
created to address the critical shortage of health care professionals in
Washington State.
- The loan repayment program provides loan repayment assistance
to licensed primary care health professionals.
Eligible provider types
- The scholarship program provides scholarships to students
training to become primary care health professionals.
In return, participants in both programs agree to provide primary care
health service in rural or underserved urban areas with designated shortages.

Information for Facilities Seeking Loan Repayment
If you want loan repayment for a health care provider at your
facility, you first need to become an eligible site. To do so,
complete and submit a site application. The next opportunity to
apply to be an eligible site will be July-September 2008.

The loan repayment program is for practices providing primary care. Preference
is given to practices:
- Serving significant numbers of Medicaid or Sliding-Fee Discount
Schedule patients or are 30 minutes or more from the next nearest source
of primary care;
- Experiencing severe recruitment difficulties (as measured by high
vacancy rates or longstanding vacancies);
- Requiring specific non-medical qualifications to address access
barriers such as language skills that may make recruiting difficult.

Urgent/Emergent Care clinics and positions are not considered
primary care within program definitions.
A facility interested in becoming an eligible site for loan repayment
must submit a site application. If you would like to be added to our
