General Information for Radiologic Technologists Certification

“Radiologic technologist” means an individual certified under this chapter 18.84 RCW, other than a licensed practitioner, who practices radiologic technology as a:

  1. Diagnostic radiologic technologist, is a person who actually handles x-ray equipment in the process of applying radiation on a human being for diagnostic purposes at the direction of a licensed practitioner, this includes parenteral procedures related to radiologic technology when performed under the direct supervision of a physician licensed under chapter 18.71 or 18.57 RCW
  2. Therapeutic radiologic technologist, is a person who uses radiation-generating equipment for therapeutic purposes on human subjects at the direction of a licensed practitioner, this includes parenteral procedures related to radiologic technology when performed under the direct supervision of a physician licensed under chapter 18.71 or 18.57 RCW
  3. Nuclear medicine technologist, is a person who prepares radiopharmaceuticals and administers them to human beings for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes and who performs in vivo and in vitro detection and measurement of radioactivity for medical purposes at the direction of a licensed practitioner.

Certification Requirements

To qualify to apply for certification, individuals must have at least one of the following:

  • Graduation from an accredited program at listed in the Health Professions Career and Education Directory published through the American Medical Association
  • XNational registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technologists Certification Board (NMTCB) sent directly to this office from the credentialing body.
  • Alternative Training (requirements listed in WAC 246-926-110, 120, 130)

And:

  • A completed Application along with application fee
  • Verification of any out-of- state credentials sent directly from the other state to this office (if applicant has been or is currently credentialed in another state).
  • Certification of seven (7) hours of HIV/AIDS training (signature on application attestation is acceptable).
