Identifying sustainable practices with the highest environmental and economic payoff

  1. Print Double-sided
Print and Copy all documents double-sided. Set as Default.

  2. Avoid unnecessary printing
Retain documents on your computer and use Email!

  3. Turn off light and machines
Turn off unused lights and machines at the end of the workday and before weekends.

  4. Minimize printer emissions
Reduce the number of personal desktop printers to minimize printer emissions in the work area.

  5. Purchase environmentally preferred products.
Purchase items that are recyclable, made of recycled goods, with less packaging, low toxicity, recyclable packaging, low emissions, and recycled content in the packaging.

  6. Reuse office materials
Recycle folders, paper clips, envelopes, “sign here” stick-its, hanging folders, batteries, etc. Reuse packaging materials and Styrofoam.

  7. Recycle Everything
Almost all paper types, cardboard, glass, aluminum, plastic, steel, tin, milk boxes, and juice containers are recyclable under our current recycling program. Toner cartridges, batteries, compact disks (CD), and floppy disks are also recyclable through recycling centers and manufacturers.

  8. Don’t ride alone
Carpool or teleconference, web-conference, or videoconference instead of driving alone to a meeting. Participate in the Commute Trip Reduction Program and ride with co-workers to work.

  9. Use ULEV's (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicles)
Choose ULEV's as often as possible when using state owned vehicles.

  10. Educate others
Share your knowledge on the benefits of sustainability.

Don’t wait until the next millennium. There is nothing more essential than clean air to breathe, clean water to drink and a healthy environment for our children to grow up in.
