WAHVE

WAshington Health Volunteers in Emergencies

WAHVE is a powerful Web-based tool for linking medical professionals who are interested in volunteering their services during times of disaster with public health and emergency management agencies.

What does WAHVE do?
WAHVE allows licensed medical professionals to register themselves as volunteers, enter their own contact information and note specialty qualifications and geographical preferences.

This will produce a database of licensed medical professionals who may be called upon during a large scale disaster. Further, it will allow Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) units, emergency

management agencies and local health agencies organize, train and prepare volunteers for emergency duty.

Will I need to join the Medical Reserve Corps if I register with WAHVE?
Volunteers who register with WAHVE are strongly encouraged to join their local MRC team. Your MRC can provide disaster training and information about local public health disaster planning and topics such as volunteer liability protections. When you register using WAHVE, you will have the opportunity to request more information from the local MRC unit in your area.

Volunteer deployments
Volunteers may be mobilized during local, regional or national disasters using local protocols. In most cases, you must be registered with your local emergency management agency and/or you local Medical Reserve Corps team to be deployed. As a disaster volunteer, you will not self deploy and must wait to be activated by the appropriate response agency. Choosing to assist in an emergency response activity is always your choice and there are no obligations to participate if called upon.

To get involved right now, join your local Medical Reserve Corps unit

Your MRC provides orientations, volunteer identification cards, training that will lead to going opportunities to volunteer in your community throughout the year.
